Matthew Pisoni, 44, of Fort Lauderdale, …. found guilty of conspiring to commit mail fraud, …. running a $25 million sweepstakes mail fraud that victimized more than 100,000 people — mostly seniors — in the U.S. and other countries,….prosecutors said Friday after a five-week jury trial that ended earlier this week in federal court in Miami.
According to evidence in the trial, the fraud was masterminded by Pisoni, who is the son-in-law of the late self-help guru Wayne Dyer…who faces a maximum punishment of 20 years in federal prison when they are sentenced in October.

Prosecutors expressed their condolences for Pisoni’s recent personal troubles but recommended Pisoni should serve the maximum of 20 years in prison for his role in a massive fraud conspiracy that hurt thousands of victims in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan and other countries. Many of the victims were vulnerable and elderly.
“This is about other families too … sons who watched their fathers being defrauded,” prosecutor H. Ron Davidson told the judge. He called it a “repulsive and cruel” crime that left widows with no money to pay their bills.
U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles … announced the punishment ..(of)…Seven years in federal prison was the appropriate punishment given the seriousness of the offense, the fact that the crimes went on for seven years and the need to deter others from committing similar crimes, the judge said.
“This whole business scheme, I mean it’s designed for fraud,” the judge said, rejecting the notion that no crime was committed. “There were no winners, there was never a payout.”

Looks like his sentencing is delayed? It does not look to be on the judge calendar for the 13th? Do you know? I don’t think there is an official obit, but if you search Mason Pisoni you will see various mentions on facebook. I wondered if that triggered a delay in sentencing. I don’t know.

I think you’re mistaken. According to the attached newspaper article from Sun Sentinel, he received a sentence of 20 years. Pisoni could make parole in maybe 7 years if he behaves.The Judge pretty much gave him a full sentence. And said Pisoni was aware that he had been defrauding old people for the last 7 years and spending that money of his rich lifestyle. Boo hoo.
A terrible shame though that this may have affected his young 19 year old son. ( And it seems Pisoni tried to use his son’s death, and everything else to get off!!! ) The judge did not buy it!!!

As to Serena Dyer Pisoni, I’m sure the Judge has heard it all before. I have received reports that while she sobbed her sad story to the judge of her 2 1/2 years of “unimaginable loss for the family”, she was jet setting with husband and rich friends to NYC, Hawaii, etc. She may not be full blown NPD but definitely lives in her own little world. And of course, while scamming 25 million dollars from old people they thought it perfectly alright.What does that tell you? So sad.

Any news yet as to whether or not the 3 scammers have to start serving their prison sentences today? I hope Judge Gayles sees through their snake oil defense screen and lowers the boom on them!! It does seem rather strange to me, that if she truly believed what she said about God. That God actually caused her husband to steal 25 Million( even if it was at $20 a pop) and be found guilty and sentenced appropriately. Then… why oh why is she/he appealing. WOW, Serena just wrote a post about how corrupt the criminal justice system is, and how they didn’t look at all the evidence. Absolutely no personal accountability whatsoever. It is VERY clear that this was FRAUD, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that.
Maybe since he’s a con artist, he has conned her into believing his lies? Or maybe she was in on it? I am shocked because I actually thought she was a decent person before all of this. We all make mistakes, but not taking accountability is where I no longer have sympathy.
I think Serena was raised in a family where grifting was a way of life.
